How to prepare for a Rhinoplasty – both physical and mentally

So you’ve made the decision, you’ve paid your deposit and you’ve committed to going through with a Rhinoplasty. Chances are this is something you have been thinking about for a long time and finally just taken the last step towards it. What sort of steps do you need to take to make sure you’re as prepared as you possibly can be?

Make sure you are doing it for the right reasons

First and foremost you need to make sure you’re making this decision for the right reasons. Not because someone has told you to or because you want to look like an Instagram model. Having realistic expectations and being patient with yourself if vital. Rhinoplasties take a long time to heal and a long time to show final results.

Change your diet in the weeks leading up to the surgery

Making sure to eat lots of fruit and vegetables, increase your intake of fibrous food in order to improve your digestion and avoid alcohol. Along with not smoking, avoiding alcohol is one of the most important things you can do pre surgery. It will help you to recover as quickly as possible.

Take 2 weeks off work

Taking the right amount of time off work to give yourself time to recover is vital. If you rush and go back to early you run the risk of accidently touching your face or bashing your nose. Since your surgery will leave your face very sensitive it’s best to avoid strenuous activity for the time being.

Find a surgeon and a clinic that you can trust

Making sure you can ask your surgeon any questions you have is very important. You want to feel like you can trust them and that they will answer any questions honestly, giving you realistic expectations on what is going to happen. Going to a clinic you can trust means that you will have the support of your patient advisors who can guide you along the way.

Prep on the day of surgery

On the day of your surgery you should make sure your skin is clean and don’t apply any cosmetic products. You should also make sure you do not eat or drink at least 8 hours before you rhinoplasty. Packing your hospital bag before the big day is also recommended. So you can make sure you have everything ready and it’s not a big rush that morning.
