She collaborated with her brother, Finneas, to create songs for the EP Don’t Smile at Me and the hit album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”, making the artist a world sensation, bringing multiple Grammy awards home before the age of 20.

She released her first extended play (EP) IN 2017, Don’t Smile at Me. Commercially successful, it reached the top 15 charts in many countries, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

Early Life and Career

Eilish was born on the 18th day of December 2001 in Los Angeles, California. Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell are Billie’s parents, who were longtime actors and musicians and eventually worked on Eilish’s tours. Her middle name, Eilish, was initially meant to be her first name, while Pirate was to be her middle name. Billie’s first name is in honor of her mother’s grandfather, William; the second was inspired by a pair of Siamese twins his parents saw in a documentary; and the third came from the insistence of his brother, Finneas, thus the name Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell.

Eilish and Finneas, her brother, were homeschooled by Baird with their parents, who decided to spend more time with their kids while allowing them the freedom to pursue their interests. Baird taught Eilish and Finneas the basics of songwriting. Eilish said her brother and mother inspired her to pursue a music career. Lectures included multifaceted talent development, including art, dance, and theater. Eilish also performed in talent shows and joined the Los Angeles Children’s Choir at 8.

In 2015, 13-year-old Eilish started writing songs with her Finneas, who became an artist in the making by writing and producing for several years with his band. The first songs Billie and Finnear recorded were “She’s Broken” and “Fingers Crossed,” written by Finneas and Eilish. They eventually put in SoundCloud just for fun, and nobody knew it was the start of something great back then.

Eilish’s debut studio album titled When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? in 2019 debuted at the top of the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. It became one of the best-selling albums of the year, thanks to the success of its fifth single, “Bad Guy,” Eilish’s first number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. She became the first artist born in the 21st century to release a single chart-topper; the following year even blossomed when Eilish performed the song No Time to Die, making it the theme for a James Bond film, which made it to the top of the UK Singles Chart and won the 2022 Academy Award for Great Original Song best.

Eilish started winning her first major awards in 2019 when she scored wins at the MTV Video and American Music Awards and was hailed Billboard’s Woman of the Year. But her big moment came at the January 2020 Grammy Awards, when she became the first woman and second artist to win in the most significant categories of album of the year, song of the year, record of the year, and best new artist. She also won two major awards, including Record of the Year at the 2021 Grammy Awards for the song Everything I Wanted.
